Shorts stay in place without grippers because shorts are make from highest quality fabrics. The smooth, seamless pad reduces opportunity for abrasion and saddle sores. Bike Shorts add comfort on longer bike rides because the compression the spandex against your muscles supports your hard work on the bike. Cross Grain Cutting maximizes stretch performance of spandex fabric. Fabric is four way, 7 1/2 oz, nylon/lycra, tricot knit - THE BEST! You want Comfort on the bicycle. These bike shorts are heavily padded, which feels weird if you're on foot, but great while on the bike. Very comfortable while riding. Haven't had the shorts long enough to see if they are durable, but they seem well constructed, so I have some confidence they will last.

Disclaimer: this is my first pair of bike shorts, so bear that in mind.
Having said that, I thought these are great. I wasn't about to pay triple digits for bike shorts. These seem like great value for the price. Feel very comfortable, nice padding, make for comfortable ride. If you are concerned about costs, I recommend these.

I've been road cycling for 15 years and have bought/worn shorts from Pearl Izumi, Canari, Voler, etc. The material on these is a bit thinner and they probably won't last as long other brands that cost twice as much, but in hot weather they are more comfortable and breath better than the competition. Despite what one reviewer said, I found the padding to actually be *thinner* than other brands.
I bought two pair to try them out and was so happy with them that I bought more.cyc
